Don't wait until you are looking for a job or until you face a social media crisis before you take your digital profile in hand.

Don't believe that your online reputation will not influence your offline reputation and vice versa. Behave at all times with integrity but be aware of the following:

Troll

In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtrl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2]extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally[3][4] or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[5] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion

troll.jpgBe clear about what trolling looks like. Be sure that it is not something you or your friends engage in or could be accused of. Establish what the appropriate steps would be to manage a situation if you were being trolled - there are so many websites that provide sensible advice. Screenshots as evidence is a good place to start, responding to negativity online by providing the troll with a reply often only serves to provide oxygen to their flames.
