Introduction

stress test

In order to perform myocardial perfusion imaging, it is essential to stress the patient so that myocardial perfusion can be compared at rest and following stress. There are several options for stressing that can be used, and the choice will depend upon the individual patient (see opposite).

Generally, exercise testing should be used where possible (see further reading, guidelines), however this is not always practical and many departments have stopped using standard exercise testing.
