There are validated tools that have been developed for the assessment of the impact of lower urinary tract symptoms, including the urinary incontinence on quality of life. These can be requested from the International Consultation on Incontinence Modular Questionnaire (ICIQ) website.

The ICIQ questionnaires are freely available for clinicians to use in practice.

More recently a validated tool has been developed specifically for the assessment of the impact of urinary catheterisation on quality of life (Wilde et al, 2010).
