Cleaning the urethral meatus

The next step in the procedure is to clean the urethral meatus, according to the same principles as for female catheterisation. The foreskin may need to be retracted in order to visualise the urethral meatus and clean the glans penis. If this is the case this must be reduced (returned to its original position over the glans) at the end of the procedure. The penis is then held as illustrated to clean around the meatus.

The potentially painful condition is Paraphimosis. The glans will become swollen and the foreskin becomes trapped behind the glans and cannot be reduced.Check your answer
