You arrange a follow up consultation after 48 hours to check Mr Davis’ response to treatment and to review his urine culture results.

A urine sample was sent to the lab which showed pus cells and bacteria. Culture results showed growth of E coli >105 bacteria/ ml which are sensitive to trimethoprim.

He tells you that his symptoms have improved, so you advise him to complete 7 days of treatment.
