This is video showing a research study undertaken by students from King’s College London (MSc Human & Applied Physiology) whilst on a field trip to the University of Portsmouth (Department of Sport and Exercise Science) in the Environmental Chamber in the labs of Prof Mike Tipton. The experiment was to investigate the effect of hypoxia (11% Oxygen) and cycles of warm (30ºC) and cold (10ºC) on peripheral vasoconstriction. Students form the MSc Human & Applied Physiology at King’s College London carry out an experiment to compare tympanic thermometry with standard core temperature measurements during a 45 minute immersion in 15˚C water followed by three different methods of re-warming, survival bags, exercise and in baths of water at 40˚C. The study was conducted in the labs of Mike Tipton, University of Portsmouth department of Sports and Exercise Science. The experiment was supervised by Dr Jim House and Mr Paul Savage (Clinical lead for RNLI).
