Try this then.. You chuck a gram of salt into an unknown quantity of water in a bucket, mix well and take a sample which turns out to be .1 grams per litre There must have been 10 litres in the bucket. (1 gram divided by .1 grams per litre is 10 litres..easy peasy)

Another 10ml sample of this patients blood is found to contain 4ml of blood cells and 6ml of plasma.

Calculate the subjects blood volume (to nearest ml):   ml

This is easy too.. If the answer to the first question was 600ml plasma (it isnt!) then youd have no problem working out that this must be equivalent to 1000ml blood To get the blood volume, you multiply plasma volume by (10/(10-4))
