Diagnosis

The diagnostic criteria for SLE include both clinical and immunoloic components. These are:
Clinical Criteria Immunologic criteria
  • Acute cutaneous lupus
  • Chronic cutaneous lupus
  • Oral or nasopharyngeal ulcerations
  • Nonscarring alopecia
  • Synovitis involving two or more joints
  • Serositis
  • Renal disorder
  • Neurologic disorder
  • Hemolytic anemia
  • Leukopenia or lymphopenia
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • ANA level above laboratory reference range
  • Anti-dsDNA antibody level above laboratory reference range
  • Anti-Sm presence
  • Antiphospholipid antibody positive, by any of the following:
    -medium or high titer anti-cardiolipin
    -positive test for anti-beta-2-glycoprotein
  • Low complement
  • Direct Coombs’ test in the absence of hemolytic anemia
