• The cause of thryotoxicosis can frequently be determined from a 99m Tc thyroid scan
• Graves disease may present in a clinically nodular goitre
• All dominant cold nodules should be assessed with Fine Needle Aspiration
• The 99mTc scan will localise all functioning thyroid tissue  - including ectopic tissue
