Introduction

Estimation of left ventricular (LV) function provides valuable prognostic information to the clinician. Whilst normal LV function confers a good prognosis, an abnormal result implies a risk of adverse cardiac event in the near future. It is therefore essential to be able to accurately estimate LV function.

Gated myocardial study gives accurate and reproducible estimation of the left ventricular function. This can be obtained from gated equilibrium radionuclide ventriculography or from gated myocardial SPECT study.
