Indications for suprapubic and intermittent catheterisation
One of the main advantages for both suprapubic and intermittent catheters is the significantly lower risk of catheter acquired urinary tract infection (CAUTI), which has been known for many years, (Sethia et al, 1987; Turi et al, 2006), but this is not necessarily the reason for choosing to use one of these options over an indwelling urethral catheter.
