Care and management of suprapubic catheters

If haematuria occurs following suprapubic catheter insertion, this is usually self-limiting, but irrigation or bladder washouts with normal saline may be required to prevent clots from forming in the bladder or flush any clots from the catheter (Harrison et al, 2010).
