Students should be able to

  • Apply their knowledge of the normal structure and function of the respiratory system, cardiovascular system (including the kidney) and central and autonomic nervous systems covered in Stage 1 to explain the clinical presentation of common and significant medical and surgical disorders affecting these systems.
  • Apply their knowledge of the relevant anatomy, physiology and biochemistry to justify the selection and use of appropriate investigations in the management of common and major disorders affecting these systems in adults
  • Describe the relevant pathology, pathophysiology and pharmacology necessary for understanding, investigating and managing these common and significant disorders, identifying the mode of action and associated risks of treatment interventions.
