- The cornea transmits and refracts (bends) light. Refraction occurs due to its curved shape and because its refractive index is higher than air.
- The ciliary body supports the lens by the zonules which regulate lens curvature and hence power.
- The lens is composed of elongated lens fibres wrapped around a central nucleus. The lens is enclosed within a capsule, which is elastic.
