Unit 7: Gradual Loss of Vision

Signs

Dry AMD

  • Drusen
  • Mottled appearing macula (Hyper and Hypo pigmentation )
  • Marked central atrophy in advanced disease

Wet AMD

  • Grey/green lesion consisting of new blood vessels (choroidal neovacularization )
  • Yellow exudates
  • Retinal haemorrhage

Wet and dry AMD both typically have reduced visual acuity

All patients require dilated fundus examination by an Ophthalmologist
