Angle closure glaucoma usually presents with acute, painful loss of vision.
It is caused by an acute elevation of intraocular pressure (IOP).
- Unilateral loss of vision (can be 6/36 or worse)
- Halos around lights
- Unilateral red eye
- Painful eye
- Nausea and vomiting
- Can be asymptomatic
- May have had previous intermittent symptoms

- Reduced visual acuity
- Corneal oedema
- Raised intraocular pressure
- Oval unreactive pupil
- Hypermetropia

The left eye shows:
- Oval unreactive pupil due to iris ischemia
- Corneal oedema (cloudy cornea causing reduced visualisation of iris detail)
- Unilateral red eye
