Imaging Techniques
The severity of the disease depends on the degree of hemodynamic change it results in. Some defects results in non-significant change whilst some result in significant haemodynamic change.
The haemodynamic significance of a defect is measured by estimating the degree of blood shunting across it. There are various techniques to assess the degree of shunting.
Techniques for measuring left to right shunts are:
- First pass radionuclide angiography
- Doppler echocardiography
- Magnetic resonance flow imaging
- Catheterisation and oximetry
- Catheterisation and indicator dilution
