Concepts of Risk

Introduction

Concepts of risk are important because they enable an informed decision to be made on whether to carry out an activity / procedure based on a cost - benefit analysis.

The notion that there is a finite acceptable level of risk of biological effects associated with occupational, medical, and public exposure to ionising radiation is the basis for radiation protection legislation and guidelines.
