Homonymous Hemianopia

- Homonymous hemianopia involves field loss affecting the corresponding half fields of each eye.
- The field loss is bilateral so therefore posterior to the chiasm.
- The field loss affects the left visual field therefore the defect is on the right side of the .
- The more congruous the lesion the closer to the occipital lobe.
Consider lesion affecting- Right optic tract
- Right optic radiations
- Right visual cortex
- Stroke is the most common cause of homonymous hemianopia.
- Other causes include tumours
