1: Diabetic Retinopathy
Prognosis
20 years after diagnosis of diabetes:
- Virtually all Type 1 and approximately 60% type 2 will have retinopathy.
30 years after diagnosis:
- 30% of Type 1 and 3% type 2 will have developed proliferative disease
Sight loss can occur from:
- Macular oedema
- Macular ischemia
- Vitreous haemorrhage from abnormal new vessels
- Tractional retinal detachment
- Visual field loss from laser treatment
